Introduction to Studio Lighting:

Studio lighting can be mysterious and intimidating to new and experienced photographers alike. This introductory crash course will shed some light on the subject and give you the confidence to start working in the studio right away. I will provide you with an essential understanding of lighting sources, modifiers, metering, and practical applications for every-day projects. You will leave the studio armed with the knowledge you need to create consistent, predictable results you and your clients can count on.

Topics covered will include:

hot lights vs strobes
mono lights vs speed lights
metering in the studio
white balance in the studio
basic portrait set up
essential modifiers (softbox, umbrella, reflector, etc.)
key light
fill light
hair light

Portraiture 101:

How often have you heard someone say ?I?m not photogenic? or ?I don?t like myself in pictures?? It seems nearly everyone who has ever been in front the lens has said something similar? I know I have. So how do you respond to someone who says they?re just not photogenic? My answer is always the same? ?Don?t worry about that?. it?s my job as a photographer to MAKE you photogenic!?

Learn what it takes to make anyone from average Joe to super-model Jane look great in portraits! In this portrait workshop, we?ll build on the foundation of lighting concepts covered in Intro to Studio Lighting and cover a variety of lighting styles, posing techniques, wardrobe and background tips, lens choice, and a host of other technical and artistic considerations that go deeper into portrait making than my other workshops.

Hands On Portrait Masterclass:

It's time again for the First Thursday Artwalk in Pioneer Square. REDred Photo is open to the thousands of people walking around the neighborhood and we offer FREE portraits to anyone who walks in! This is a fantastic opportunity to gain valuable experience working with a huge variety of people and apply all the skills you learned in the Intro Lighting & Portraiture 101 classes.

We typically spend about 10 minutes with each person or group and can cycle through up to 30 different portrait sessions in one evening! Of course, we'll shoot tethered for immediate feedback and I'll be there the entire time to coach you and direct sessions as needed.

This incredible chance to practice your portrait skills only comes around once a month so don't miss out!
