Elasticsearch meetup rescheduled

Ok lets try this again, rescheduling elasticsearch 1.0 release meetup talk here.

Here are the topics to be covered:

1) Elasticsearch company update with Roadmap for Elasticsearch, Logstash and Kibana

2)Recent customer case studies, how people are really using ES in the real world- Deep dive on new features like Aggregations, Snapshot and Restore, Distributed Percolation, Doc Values-

3) Monitoring Elasticsearch, how best to ensure your cluster is performing as well as it can- Logstash and Kibana Demo - walk through a simple use case from soup to nuts.

4) Real life uses of elasticsearch in log analysis (I'll talk about uses at Disney)

At theES meetup, someone asked if about getting from R to ES. 1. Call Java

There is a low-level R to JVM Interface rJava
called rJava. It can go either way r to Java, Java to r.

The r to JVM would copy data into JVM objects, then copy to the net calls to ES. Results would do the 2 copies back. Not a problem if the data is small.

There probably isn't any gain to convert into a JVM and then to the ES server unless your JVM is helping you: build quiries, cache results, or reduce results.

    2. Use JSon

A direct native r solution would be to call ElasticSearch over the wire using Json. The Json is easy to figure out since that is how ES is doc'ed. There are several R Json libs.

    3. R interpreter in JVM

Another solution would put Java/JVM at the top. There is an R interpreter - renjin - which runs on the JVM and can access Java data (from ES), but may suffer from not having all R libraries available.

If anyone wishes to discuss any such cross communication drop me a line.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
