Roller Derby & St. Patty's fun

Come watch the Rat City Rollergirls battle it out on the flat track, followed by drinks/hanging out in Queen Anne. If you can't make it to the match but want to meet up afterwards, just let me know.

If you haven't watched roller derby before, no worries. It's easy to pick up, and they explain the rules. If 5 or more people sign up we can try to get a deal on tickets. Seating is general admission. Let's plan to sit toward the bottom of section 107. Opening ceremonies start at 5:30. There will be a halftime show between the two bouts.

The first bout of the evening is a highly anticipated match-up between 2012 Home Team Champions Grave Danger and the Derby Liberation Front. The last time these two teams met in competition was almost a year ago when Grave Danger defeated DLF by just 5 points, helping to keep them out of the 2012 Championship game.

In the second bout of the evening the Throttle Rockets, after two close losses to Rat City home teams in the beginning of the season, will be looking to show the Port Scandalous Brawl Stars of Port Angeles, WA, that they are still a team to be feared.

There will be a 50/50 raffle which awards half the pot to the winner, so you could win a chunk of cash while you're there!

You can buy tickets online through Ticketmaster, at the Key Arena box office (lower service fees), or at Fast Girl Skates in Wallingford (252 NE 45th St., cash ONLY, $15 each or $61 for 5, tickets not available day of game). Tickets are $14 (plus fees) in advance and $19 (plus fees) on the day of the bout.

And don’t forget, while you’re grabbing your fan signs to come down to the Key you can also grab a couple of cans of food (or just a little cash) to donate to the Ballard Food Bank at our Show Us Your Cans donation bins. The first 250 fans to donate will even get some sweet Rat City swag! You can also support local youth activities by buying delicious cookies from our featured charity of the month, the Girl Scouts of Western Washington, investing in some 50/50 raffle tickets from the Seattle Derby Brats, or just cheering your heart out for the Northside Youth Program Drill Team during our intermission show.

I'm going to head to FastGirl Skates tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon to buy 5 tickets. The first 4 people to swear an oath to pay me back or to PayPal me (I’ll send a message to those RSVPd yes with my email address) will get the other 4 tickets at the reduced price of $12.20. I can't afford to carry the price for the whole group, so if other people can buy tickets at either FastGirl or Key Arena before Saturday, please volunteer to help us get a deal. Post below to let people know you are willing.

I will buy an additional 5 tickets tomorrow for every 5 people who can agree to PayPal me before 5:30pm.

If someone agrees to buy a ticket for you, that means you are either paying them ahead of time or committing to paying them at the game or via some other means if you don’t end up at the game for any reason. It’s a commitment you’re not allowed to back out of.

Where do people want to go afterwards? Any favorite spots in Queen Anne?

Okay, let’s try to get group tickets. If I’ve done the math right, this is the breakdown:

Ticketmaster charges the following for advanced tickets: $18.84 for individual tickets, $17.44 per ticket for a group of 10 or more, and $15.98 per ticket if you buy the 5 for the price of 4 deal. It seems silly that it costs more to buy 10 than 5, but that’s Ticketmaster for you. I think the fee at the Key Arena box office is around $1.00. So an individual ticket would be around $15, and the 5 for the price of 4 deal should be $61, which works out to $12.20 per person. That’s the same deal they have at FastGirl Skates. I think that’s the best deal we can get, but I e-mailed the Rat City Rollergirls Box Office and Ticketing Manager to see if a bigger group might make a difference. Hopefully she’ll respond today.

This is the response I got tonight to my email: Thank you for your question regarding group sales!

There are two options that would work for your group.

The first one is the Buy 4, Get the 5th for $1. For this you would need to 15 in your group to purchase or get two of these and purchase two single tickets. These are available at the Key Arena box office or at Fast Girl Skates in Wallingford on 45th St. Both locations do not have added fees, except the facility fee which is non negotiable and is already added to the ticket price ($61 total for GA buy 4, get 5th for $1 and $15 for GA singles). If you do decide to go to Fast Girl Skates, please know that they are only able to accept cash, no cards to purchase these tickets.

The second option is the Grous 10 or More discount. By going this route you are able to save 10% on tickets and as long as you have 10 in your group you qualify: even in odd number groups. With this discount we also help with seating arrangements within a team'

At 10% off, tickets would be $13.50 per person if we do the group option. The Buy 4, Get the 5th for $1 comes out to $12.20 per person. I think we should go for that option.
