AWS Game Day ~ Seattle Style!

GameDay from AWS:reinvent - right here in Seattle. Learn and share AWS automation and disaster recovery skills.

Compete with other AWS users in a battle for fame and glory! And prizes! (Amazon Fires, Arduino and Raspberry Pi kits, Amazon TV Fire Stick and O'Reilly books). Even if you just have some AWS basics this is a great way to learn - we'll have experienced AWS'ers and Amazon staff helping teams out on site.

So what is this GameDay you speak of....?

> The Game Day team will give an architecture to build.

> Your team will build it out.

> Then hand it off to another team to destroy it!

> Get it back - the first team to restore their environment wins.

Learn practical infrastructure crisis management, high availability design, system monitoring and alerting, and IT security in a fast paced, high stakes, game of skill.

You will build a distributed cloud based system, it will be broken horribly by your competition, and then you will work to repair and stabilize the system in real-time. Network with other DevOps ninjas to pick up new tricks and strategies, and work with AWS architects to help solidify your designs and breathe life back into your systems.

Signups are limited to the first 50 players. Food and beverages will be offered throughout the day. Prizes will be given out to the winning teams and there will be drawings for other participants.

About the fee...

Fee helps ensure people who sign up are committed so we have enough players. All fees go back to participants to cover transaction fees, supplies, additional food, drinks and after party.

After Party

If you can't participate in the game but want to join the after party only, feel free to sign up and let me know so I can increase the limit for the game. If you know anyone that might want to help sponsor the after party let me know because event fees don't cover the cost for renting a private room, but we can still hang out in our usual spot and some food and drinks will be provided.

FAQ:

Do I need DevOps experience to participate?

DevOps experience is highly recommended, but is not required. AWS experience is a must.

Do I need to have a team to sign up?

No, teams will be assigned at the beginning of the Gameday event.

What type of system will we be building?

The specifics of the system will be released at the Gameday event, but it is a good idea to be familiar with EC2, SQS, SNS, Python, and the AWS CLI tools.

What do I need to bring?

Just your laptop and an AWS account. We will supply the power, Internet, and refreshments.
