Linda Ruth Van-Hook Briganti, LMHC1949 - 2014
We have some sad news to report. Our Olympia support group facilitator, Linda Ruth Van-Hook Briganti, passed away Monday afternoon, February 3, 2014, at St. Peters Hospital in Olympia. https://origin.ih.constantcontact.com/fs136/1101990230710/img/399.jpg She was a volunteer with ADD Resources for many years and lead her support group with skill, care and the ability to bring out the best in everyone.

Linda was 64 years old and a 26-year resident of Olympia. Her passing was unexpected. She had successfully battled breast cancer nine years ago. The cancer returned suddenly and with a vengeance in a devastating and untreatable form that took her quickly.

Don Sloma, Director of Thurston County Public Health & Social Services, worked with Linda in the legislature in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Don recalls that time when Linda worked for the Washington State Senate Social and Health Services Committee with Senator Day as Chair. Don notes that, "Linda was an intelligent, fair and passionate analyst who cared deeply about the mentally ill, children at risk, people with disabilities, the poor and the aged. She helped us all understand more about the challenges and barriers to these vulnerable, often voiceless populations. She challenged herself and those around her to do better as she pursued the highest of standards.

Kathy Engle, former Executive Director of ADD Resources, knew Linda well from their years working together and recalls that, "Linda worked very hard and selflessly, bringing so much to the table."

Danny Stusser, longtime friend and support group member remembers that, "Linda had a special place in her heart for people with ADHD. She knew when to be patient, kind and understanding and when the time was right to kick butt."

February's support group meeting in Olympia will be devoted to celebrating Linda's life. It's set for the regularly scheduled time and place, Wednesday, February 19, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Providence Professional Building, 525 Lilly Road NE, Olympia, WA 98506. The family's celebration of Linda's life is a few days earlier. The family asks that In lieu of flowers please send donations to Brandon Clarno, a dear friend to Linda and family, who is experiencing his own battle with cancer.
