Google Dev-Fest Seattle - Building Apps for Tablets and TVs

GO TO THE GTUG PAGE FOR SIGNUP DETAILS - The below is a repost of that information!

The Seattle GDG is sponsoring our first annual Dev Fest on Sept 29th and 30th. We're putting on a major event for up to 200 developers, designers, and entrepreneurs.

The theme of this year's Dev Fest is building applications for new device form factors. Many developers are used to building for the web or for mobile clients - but there is not as much experience (esp. on the Android platform) designing for the new 7" tablets (like Samsung's awesome Nexus 7) or for the TV (Google TV platform).

We're going to focus on helping people get ramped up on developing for these new devices.

This is a hands-on two day event. We'll be providing breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday. You bring your laptop and get ready to build!

Our event features:

  1. Pre-event mixer/party Friday night (location TBD).
  2. Lectures by expert designers for tablets and TV.
  3. Hands-on tutorials to get you started building apps using App Engine, HTML and JavaScript tuned for these new devices.
  4. Experts from the Google TV team to teach you about the new platform and how to get the most from it.
  5. Packaging HTML apps using PhoneGap to provide a native experience.
  6. Plenty of expert mentors to help you while you spend the weekend learning and building.
  7. An (optional) demo contest. Got a great idea to show off? We'll be awarding prizes to teams that want to demo their tablet/tv ideas and are ready to show off on Sunday afternoon.

Volunteers Needed

We have 10 slots available for experienced developers (HTML/JavaScript, App Engine, or Android) to serve as mentors at our event. If you're available to volunteer, we'd love to have your help and will provide you with a free ticket. You must be available on Saturday and Sunday to offer help to individuals and teams working on tutorials or their own demo projects.

Hope to see everyone there!
