“We forget that, historically, people have eaten for a great many reasons other than biological necessity. Food is also about pleasure, about community, about family and spirituality, about our relationship to the natural world, and about expressing our identity.” (Michael Pollan, In Defense of Food)
This remembering of what food is about is what the Defenders of Food are doing. Do you enjoy food? Do you read about it or write about it? Do you enjoy conversations over food? Do you play with your food? Do you love to eat?
We love to eat real food. Not too much. Mostly local. We also enjoy foodie culture such as food books, movies, talks and similar events, neighborhood food walks, food and wine tastings, to name a few.
Welcome to Defenders of Food Club!
1. The first rule of Defenders of Food Club is to remember what food is about.
2. The second rule of Defenders of Food Club is real food and real conversations go together like a baguette and butter, like tea and rice. Food Defenders meet regularly to enjoy real food and real conversations.
3. The third rule of Defenders of Food Club is to share a passion for local food and the food of neighborhood restaurants, bistros, delis and dives. This rule includes, among other things, dining out, potlucks, and foodie events.
