This meetup focuses on Scalability and technologies to enable handling large amounts of data: Hadoop, HBase, distributed NoSQL databases, and more!

There's not only a focus on technology, but also everything surrounding it including operations, management, business use cases, and more.

Data Unification. Scalable systems open up a range of opportunities to do new and exciting things with data. Some of these opportunities lie in the area of data unification: combining diverse data sets together to create a clearer picture of the real world. This talk will discuss how scalable technologies can be used to dramatically improve how data unification is done and will hopefully have time to go over some real world examples.

Jakob Homan, Senior Software Engineer at LinkedIn

Samza is a new distributed stream processing framework developed at LinkedIn and recently incubated into the Apache Software Foundation. Built atop YARN, it provides fault tolerance, durability, scalability and even local state with a simple, Map-Reduce-like interface.

Jakob Homan is an Apache Hadoop committer and PMC member and works on Samza full time. http://samza.incubator.apache.org/

Our format is flexible: We usually have 2 speakers who talk for ~30 minutes each and then do Q+A plus discussion (about 45 minutes each talk) finish by 8:45p.

There'll be beer afterwards, of course!

Hemlock room at the Microsoft City Center in downtown Bellevue. 555 110th Ave NE (btwn NE 4th & NE 6th St.), Bellevue, WA 98004. It is next to the Bellevue Transit station. There is pay parking inside the building. Parking on the streets will be more difficult, but parking in the Lincoln Center and/or Bellevue Square Mall about 5-10 minutes by foot should be free.

Doors open 30 minutes ahead of show-time. Please show up at least 15 minutes early out of respect for our first speaker.
