Seattle Hadoop / Scalability / NoSQL Meetup: SQL Azure

Details

This meetup focuses on Scalability and technologies to enable handling large amounts of data: Hadoop, HBase, distributed NoSQL databases, and more!

There's not only a focus on technology, but also everything surrounding it including operations, management, business use cases, and more.

We've had great success in the past, and are growing quickly! Including guests from Twitter, LinkedIn, Amazon, Cloudant, 10gen/MongoDB, and more.

Our format is flexible: We usually have speakers who talk for ~30 minutes each and then do Q+A, plus discussion.

There'll be beer afterwards, of course! Fierabend, 422 Yale Ave N

Meetup Location:
Amazon HQ, Von Vorst Building, 426 Terry Ave N., Seattle, WA 98109-5210

NOTE: This building is in the 'back right' of the area with the stairs.

Doors open 30 minutes ahead of show-time. Please show up at least 15 minutes early out of respect for our first speaker.

Speaker: Michael Rys, Microsoft SQL Azure

Abstract:

Many applications both in the internet and corporate environment have to process a lot of data that can easily overwhelm a single system database. Thus, applications often scale-out their data-tier by partitioning their data across many databases, a process commonly referred to as sharding. With the advent of NoSQL systems, these paradigms are now making the transition from the application-tier, where every application needs to manage its own sharding approach, into the data platform. This presentation with show how the new SQL Azure Federation concept is providing this NoSQL paradigm in the SQL Azure platform. It will cover the principals behind SQL Azure Federations, and set the context for using SQL Azure for big data business applications.

Bio:
