Building a Server Appliance with Node.js & Lightning Talks

The Seattle Node.js Meetup group’s June 18th event will take us through a tour of writing and packaging server appliances with Node.js, and the usual array of lightning talks. We will have pizza, beers, beverages and all of the creative supplements needed for an exciting night of Node.js learning and exploration.

We’re still looking for more lightning talks. Everyone is welcome to come up with an idea or presentation at the event, but please do consider throwing something out there early for the group to discuss and refine before you present it in the comments on our website post or the meetup page!

As always, you can find all things Seattle Node.js-related at the group website: http://seanode.github.io/. And you can reach out to us via email [masked] or Twitter @seattlenode.

See you soon!

Agenda

6:30 - 7:00pm: Start with pizza and beer, courtesy of Appature.

7:00pm - 7:30pm: Eugenio Pace will present a talk on "Building a Server Appliance with Node.js".

7:30pm - on: It’s time again for lightning talk awesomeness. Bring your ideas, discoveries, and projects to share with the group.

Main Talk

Eugenio Pace will present "Building a Server Appliance with Node.js":

Auth0 is a server/service to drastically simplify authentication, identity federation and SSO scenarios. It’s our first big project on node. One of the reasons we decided to build it entirely on Node.js, is the ability to package it and deploy it anywhere: as a service in the public cloud, as a virtual appliance on private cloud, or as an appliance on-premises. In this session we’ll show how we built it, what worked well, what didn’t, and the tools that we used.

Eugenio is the cofounder of Auth0, an identity management service built with Node.js. Before Auth0, he worked for Microsoft in various teams, and for the last 5 years has worked mostly in cloud computing and identity engineering.

Venue / Sponsors

Appature has graciously agreed to host the event and provide food and tasty beverages. Appature’s offices are located at: 1633 Westlake Ave North, Suite 400, Seattle, WA

Since folks were interested in NodePDX and the Arduino hacks (thanks for sharing Bryce!), I figured everyone might also be interested in Seattle's first Maker/hardware hackathon: http://seattlemaker.startupweekend.org/. Should be a ton of fun! I have no doubt that aside from getting to learn how to program Arduino, a solid backend, preferably built on node.js ;), will be critical to many of the projects.

    Hey,
Our company is deep into a redesign of our systems and heavily vested in NodeJS at this point. a) I am looking for a developer FTE, b) I have an office we can use downtown.

Using node on a pet project and would love to go to an event!

Would love to chat Node.js - north or downtown is fine. I just moved here from DC (still working remotely), where we've been running various Node.js backends for about a year now in production, standing up against some pretty decent traffic.

+1 for downtown, though I'll probably rally N if that's what happens

    February 15, 2013

  • Dave

I'll add a separate event for downtown, if the north seattle one gets figured out, the details can be added to this event

Normally we use the Easy at techstars in south lake union, but I'd love to diversify a bit. Pick a spot and date and let's give it a shot!

What's the normal meeting place ?
Can't we just book out a big room in a pub/bar?

North Seattle is fine for me. I also have a place I can offer, at Marchex downtown at 520 Pike on the 20th floor. It's a nice space with a view of the city and the water, and can be available every month if we need it.

Looking forward to getting some regular meetings scheduled!

Love to attend one in the north end!

Where are your offices? I'm in North Seattle as well, and it would be good to get together and chat about Node. Sometime later this month?
