When and how did you become aware that you're an HSP? How did you learn about our group?

I didn't know what to call myself until a few days ago. It is a relief to know there is a name for the way I am in the world because before I thought I was just crazy. I feel very deeply for others to a point that I would rather go without than see someone want something I have. I've always been too nice to people and I cry easily. The pain in the world really bothers me and I always want to help but this causes me a lot of my own pain and I feel overwhelmed.

Have you read any of Elaine Aron's books about the HSP trait? Which ones?

None! I will change that as soon as the library opens up tomorrow :)

Please tell us a bit about how being Highly Sensitive affects your life. We honestly aren't trying to be nosy. But because we're set up as a "real life" social group, it is helpful for members to share something about themselves when they join.

I've done a lot of amazing things due to my ability to emotionally commit to a project but I've also spent much time hiding in my apartment because I get overwhelmed by the world. And although my ability to forgive is something I admire, I let others take advantage of me because it hurts me to disappoint people, tell them no or simply walk away. . . regardless of what they are doing or saying to me. I'm afraid of making friends and when I do it's easy to lose them. I am kind and loving but if you make me mad, eventually I will tell you exactly what I see and since I'm more perceptive, the truth shocks and enrages others and I am always a little sorry that I couldn't just be more honest and direct up front. I don't know if that is part of being HSP or what but it drives me crazy about myself and I am working hard to improve. I am easily moved to tears(I've learned to hide it)and it impacts my relationships w/others. And I don't know how to open up to others because I am afraid.

In addition to our monthly discussion meetings, what other activities would you like to see offered?

I like to go for very long walks anywhere but especially nature where it is peaceful and quiet. I like to drink organic teas and snack on specialty breads and cheeses. I love to travel and have been to Mexico, France and Thailand - I'm so excited to go to more places and meet new people just to admire how they live so differently than me. I like to be in beautiful places with cozy atmospheres and prefer the bar "Hush" in Seattle because it is so quiet.

What do you hope to get from your membership in our HSP meetup? (i.e. friendship, activity partners, support, networking, etc)

I hope to learn from other HSPs on how to communicate better with the other 80% of the population. I hope to meet people who can share their dreams with me and together we can make a deep and lasting impact on the world and send a message of love. I would love to pair up with people to write books about our experiences as truly sensitive people so that we can share our gifts with everyone.

I'm 31 and in a happy and committed relationship that has helped me to feel safe enough to be myself. I like to focus on gratitude and try very hard to be positive because otherwise I get very sad. I want happiness for myself and everyone around me!
