Lake Union/Union Bay Paddle + I.D. Food Walk

We are going to paddle from the NWOC dock on Lake Union out to Portage Bay, Union Bay, and around the Arboretum area. Afterward, (optional) we'll go to the 4th Annual International District (Seattle) Lunar New Year Food Walk.

Sign-up Requirements:

This is a 7 nautical-mile winter paddle in cold water that may be subject to wind waves.

To sign up for this paddle, you need to be an advanced novice or beyond paddler, with re-entry and rescue training, skills and practice, and you must be able to paddle at a 2.5 knots pace. The required kayaking experience and skills need to be documented in your meetup-profile information and your answers to the sign-up questions.

Schedule and Itinerary:

9:00 a.m. - park, off-load ourkayaks, meet at the top of the stairs, and carry our kayaks and gear down to the NWOC dock.

10:00 a.m. - launch from the NWOC dock and paddle out to the Arboretum and back, approx. 7 n.m.

~ 12:45 pm. arrive back at NWOC, load up the kayaks, and (optional) drive to the International District in Seattle.

Rental Gear

NWOC opens at 10 a.m. and has rental kayaks and drysuits available. If enough folks are renting, they may open a little early for us.

Conditions and Contingency:

This paddle is contingent upon reasonably safe wind and weather conditions.

Equipment Requirements:

Kayak, paddle, pfd, paddlefloat, pump, sprayskirt, sunglasses, sunscreen, water and snacks, waterproof hat, VHF radio if you have one, drysuit. Layered warm clothes, waterproof insulated paddle gloves and/or pogies, warm head and ears protection. Extra change of warm clothes in a dry-bag.

Immersion Gear:

Immersion gear (wetsuit or drysuit, preferably drysuit) is mandatory for this paddle.
