New Meetup: Ross Lake Wilderness Kayak Camping Trip

Announcing a new Meetup for Seattle Area Sea Kayaking Meetup Group!

What: Ross Lake Wilderness Kayak Camping Trip

When: Thursday, September 23,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Colonial Creek Campground
MP 130 Hwy 20
diablo, WA

This is a repeat of the weekend trip that we did August 21st with a goal of getting an even more scenic campsite, such as Cougar Island or 10 mile Island.

We will meet at Colonial Creek Campground on Thursday night so we can launch
before the winds kick up in the morning on Friday. Figure about an 8am
launch. We will then paddle up Thunder Arm to the Skagit River, paddle
upstream to the powerhouse, call the shuttle and get a ride up the hill
about 5 miles to Ross Lake.

It is a beautiful area, we will be camping in a wilderness area so our party size is limited, which mens that I can't keep adding people, sorry.

Estimated costs - the boat portage service price varies a bit but
typically runs about $20 per kayak each way. Food, we do group meals which each meal
team bringing ingredients. Camping and parking at Colonial Creek, figure
another $20 or so total.

Camping - we need to pick up a backcountry camping permit and it
makes my life easier if someone can get up to one of the ranger stations
earlier in the day on Thursday and pick up a permit.
We will also have to pay for the camping at Colonial Creek
campground.

Should be a fun trip - Saul[masked], [address removed]

I have some loaner kayaks available, you'll want a wetsuit or drysuit since the water in our first Lake (Diablo) is glacial.

I will post boat assignments and meal teams once we know who is going.
