I've been going up to the Skagit delta near La Conner a lot over the winter, and always see bald eagles, herons and geese. But now the fields around La Conner and Fir Island are FULL of snow geese - thousands in one field today - and black beaked swans. The squawking throng is raucous and loud, and you can pull off the road a few feet away and watch or film them and they just ignore you. God knows what would happen if you tossed a bag of stale bread out there. Anyway, if you like to see the wintering flocks, now is the time. Get off I-5 at Conway and drive up to La Connor the back way and you'll almost certainly see at least one big flock.
