No-Agenda SPC Meetup Tuesday @ the HubSeattle
Details
Are you an entrepreneur? Is your Social Purpose Corporation launching? Should it be? What hurdles do you face? Let's discuss, this coming Tuesday!!!
THE NO-AGENDA AGENDA
We won't have an agenda but we're looking forward to a lively conversation with fellow social entrepreneurs interested in the Social Purpose Corporation in Washington State.
We're planning a series of Fall workshops around becoming an SPC and encourage your input and ideas. We're currently planning three workshops:
an introduction to SPCs & the legal requirements "should you be an SPC?" steps to take to define your social purpose & other obligations "I want to be one, what now?" putting accountability into SPCs—thoughtful metrics and marketing "What do I do next?" We'd love your feedback and thoughts about what you'd like to see to help your business. Come and mingle with some of Seattle's most innovative social entrepreneurs and see where the facilitated conversation goes.
$5 FEE
It costs the Hub ~$120 in actual dollars for to "host" an event (doing a rough calculation on rent, staff time, etc., not including lost opportunity cost). They tried a traditional "pay to host an event" model in the past, but lost access to a lot of interesting event partners that can find a different host for free. So, they shifted to a "aligned events for free" strategy. However, this didn't address the lost revenue, nor was it a unique value to Hub members (other than easy access). Thus, our SPC group is now invited to come and host the event without paying a rental cost, but with a small attendance fee that we then split with the Hub. This incentivizes us all to make sure a lot of people come (so we get a nominal return to pay for the meetup website) AND demonstrates clear value of Hub membership (if one attends 5 monthly events for $5-10 each, it makes more sense for them to just become a HUB member and have free access). It pays to keep interests aligned! This Meetup is FREE for all Hub members!

SOCIAL ENTERPRISE IN SEATTLE
According to Fast Company, our fair city has a lot of "wealthy tech players with business experience looking to give back, plus a government that is making it easy for social entrepreneurs to flourish." Is Seattle the new capital for social enterprise? (http://www.fastcoexist.com/1680153/will-seattle-become-the-capital-of-social-entrepreneurship) What do you think? Let's discuss, and make it so, this coming Tuesday!
According to the Schwab Foundation, a "social entrepreneur is a leader or pragmatic visionary who:
• Achieves large scale, systemic and sustainable social change through a new invention, a different approach, a more rigorous application of known technologies or strategies, or a combination of these.
• Focuses first and foremost on the social and/or ecological value creation and tries to optimize the financial value creation.
• Innovates by finding a new product, a new service, or a new approach to a social problem.
• Continuously refines and adapts approach in response to feedback."
