Fun Things You Can Do With Spark 1.0 with Paco Nathan (Special Event)

We are happy to announce a Seattle Spark Meetup Special Event with Paco Nathan:

Fun Things You Can Do With Spark 1.0

Bring your laptop for a mini-hackathon intro to Spark 1.0 features. We'll distribute USB sticks loaded by Databricks with code + data sets, then walk through.

This is a super-condensed version of part of the "Intro to Apache Spark" workshop, especially for those who could not attend the workshop that day, or wanted to learn more about Spark first.

We'll cover the basics of getting started with Spark from the interpreter (spark-shell), plus the new Spark SQL, support for Parquet, etc.

Some experience with Python, Java, or Scala will come in handy.

Food will be sponsored by DataBricks!  (no need to bring $5.00 for the basket)

Many thanks for the opportunity to present, and to Jake + Twitter for gracious hosting. Here are the slides, including the O'Reilly Docker+IPython Notebook parts that we didn't get to demo :)

Very informative. Would like to do the tutorial now that spark is compiled. Is the deck up yet?

Quick tip - take the 2nd set of elevators to the 20th floor. There are three elevators where you can take it up - just make sure to click 20th button (and it lights up) and then click the close button long enough for the doors to close. Enjoy!
