Machine Learning Streams with Spark 1.0

6:15 to 6:45 : Networking / food & drinks

6:45 to 7:30 : Machine Learning Streams with Spark 1.0

7:30 to 8:00 : Open Q&A & Wrap up

Big Data and complex event processing (CEP) are ends of the data spectrum that get tremendous value from machine learning.

The first section will cover the basics of machine learning. You’ll learn about the model types and analytic processes with live demos of several machine learning problems. We’ll then discuss the challenges of building analytic applications that rely on CEP and Big Data .

The second and deeper part of the discussion will focus on MLLib. You’ll first see a brief review of its Spark 1.0 offerings and samples running in Scala. Then we’ll discuss our experiences building our own MLLib algorithm and integrating it with an application.

Some experience with R, Python, Java, or Scala is not necessary, but will help you take the most advantage of the second session.

Food will be sponsored by Ubix! (no need to bring $5.00 for the basket)

Drew Minkin worked as a Director and Architect at Predixion Software and VP of Analytics at Halo BI, and is currently Principal Program Manager of Ubix Labs.

Thanks for all the great feedback! I recorded a 5 minute walkthrough of Spark 1.0 MLlib I did not get a chance to show at the Meetup:

Do we have slides/deck or recording from the event, that can be shared here?

While the Data Science tools and methodologies overview was very well done, I was hoping for more time to be devoted Spark-specific topics. Regardless of my expectations, I enjoyed the Meetup and am looking forward to attending the next.

interesting and informative talk. I really hope the speakers spend more time talking about how to use Spark and what the company will be adding to Spark.

Hi Bot, Good to see you last night. Yes, we will be posting more information and I can see perhaps future talks or slides that we share on the subject. We're very interested in sharing our experiences integrating Spark & especially around streaming and ML

Hi Folks, Thanks for attending last night, it was really great to see the excitement around Spark! We'll be posting slides from the presentation shortly on Slideshare and then referencing them here.

Also, if anyone is interested in the Ubix private beta, please email: [masked]. We'll be launching the beta on Monday.

Traffic was very congested on I 90. Had to return back. I'll appreciate slides are posted later on.
