Join us for DocuTalk@911 Seattle Media Arts Center, TUESDAY, February 24th at 7:00PM Please welcome Lenville O'Donnell, Vice President/Executive Producer of
Strehle Media Group, Inc. and President of Veni Vidi Films for a fascinating discussion on the process of acquiring and using archival and stock footage for documentary film projects. Len will cover the challenges of licensing and fair use limits of various media that enhance and are vital components of our films including music, art, brands, trademarks, photographs etc. LEN O'DONNELL has producing, directing, and writing credits on documentaries, feature films, network television series, and pilots for various major studios and production companies, including Paramount, MGM, NBC, Bravo, Tribune, Discovery, Travel Channel, CourtTV, Endemol, Phoenician, and Renegade. In 2006 he produced and co-wrote the feature documentary
ON NATIVE SOIL, THE DOCUMENTARY OF THE 9/11 COMMISSION REPORT, a thought-provoking, emotional examination of the 9/11 Commission's investigation into the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Narrated by multiple Oscar® winners Kevin Costner and Hilary Swank, the film was a semi-finalist for the 2005 Academy Award® for best documentary feature. It was distributed by LionsGate and broadcast by CourtTV in 2006. Len was also the supervising producer of David E. Kelley's critically acclaimed primetime legal series The Law Firm, which aired on NBC and Bravo in 2005. He recently produced the feature film
The Spy and the Sparrow, starring Oscar® nominee Eric Roberts, Elisabeth Rohm, David Rasche, John Aylward, and Chad Lindberg. Filmed entirely on location in Seattle in 2007, the thriller is currently in post-production and slated for release in 2008. Currently Len is working on an historical documentary entitled
"Rough Water: Odyssey Behind the Iron Curtain," which is about the 1958 University of Washington rowing crew, who were the first American athletes to compete in the Soviet Union. The film will use this event to explore Cold War politics and world events that strangely parallel many today. The film will include substantial acquired footage from around the world. Segments from this film as well as "On Native Soil" will be shared during the presentation. Len graduated from the University of Washington in 1983. In 2006, after over a decade based in Los Angeles, he returned to Seattle to produce feature films and documentaries through his production company, Veni Vidi Films, which he will continue to do in association with the Strehle Media Group.
