The Zombie Apocalypse & Other Honeymoon Ideas: Creating an Indie Comic Book

Details
This month's IA/UX meetup is co-hosted by IxDA Seattle (http://ixdaseattle.org/) and sponsored by Porch (http://porch.com). Join us to learn how to pitch yourself and your work through the universal art of storytelling. Two designers will take you through their experience of creating an indie comic book and draw out lessons that can be applied to you, as a designer or creative, trying to better present yourself and your work.
The Zombie Apocalypse and Other Honeymoon Ideas: How one Designer couple created their Indie Comic Book
Sarah Braly and David Phillips are the creators of the independent comic book High Fructose Zombies (http://highfructosezombies.com/). In the span of 2 years, they went from having nothing to a 6 issue graphic novel, a successful Kickstarter (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/721398206/hi-fructose-zombies), and even a window display in Grand Central Station in NYC.
Come check out how Sarah and David bootstrapped their comic, learn about the ins and outs of comic creation, find the universal truths of having to talk about your work, and, of course, learn of the impending sugarpocalypse!

About the speakers
David Phillips has lived many lives. He was a struggling actor, writer, producer, children's improv teacher and production assistant for 8 years in Los Angeles before attending graduate school at NYU for their Interactive Telecommunications Program, including internships with Apple and Cisco. While in New York, he worked at TechStars, one of the top tech incubators in the country, and Control Group, a technology design firm that was rated one of the top 50 places to work in New York 2 years running. He now works at Microsoft in Seattle as a UX Designer.
Comic book artist. Sculptor. Nacho lover. Sarah Braly, now a Seattle based artist via NYC and LA, is, before anything, a storyteller. “I’m a world builder, using the medium of comics and sculpture to create complete realities in 2D and then launching them off the page with custom action figures.” Simply put she, and by extension her work, "are like restaurant grade nachos: well-made but not too serious with just the right level of cheesiness."
