Women Talking About WordPress - A Workshop on Speaking at Meetups

Women Talking WordPress is a workshop for women who are thinking about speaking at WordCamp or our regular WordPress meetups. The focus of the workshop will be to help generate topics to give a talk on, boost your speaking confidence, and allow you to practice speaking in a safe space. At the end of the workshop you will have a few ideas for talks, an outline on one topic, and a chance to practice speaking in a small group. This workshop is for you if:
• You identify as female or non-male (men - don't worry, you can come to the event on April 2!)
• You have thought about contributing by speaking at WordCamp or meetups, but don't know what to speak about
• You want to gain confidence in public speaking

Agenda:
• Why speak at WordPress events? Why do we need more women speaking at them?
• Dispelling some myths about speakers/speaking
• Content generation exercise
• Creating a talk outline
• Practice giving a short talk

Just a reminder to everyone who participated in this workshop - speaker submissions are due on the 18th! There were a lot of really fantastic ideas floating around that evening, and I would love to see you all submit talks!

It was so much fun tonight and very empowering. Great to meet a wonderful group of women. I love WordPress, but love the world of Social Media just as much.
Found it hilariously ironic that I came home to read this article in my news feed (about women needing to be "more represented" as social media leaders) Very appropriate that more people are realizing the need for more women to be represented in tech (and social media) http://lorirtaylor.com/social-media-influence-women/
Thank you for a great meetup event. Look forward to more.

I too have been derailed from attending <dang it> Most excellent gathering - I hope there is another one.

I'm so sorry to cancel at the last minute. I just realized that today is TUESDAY. I thought this meetup was on Wednesday. I'm on dog duty tonight, because my boyfriend has to work late.

Bummed that I'm missing out on the networking opportunity!

Yes, anyone is welcome to the one on Wednesday! If you can't make it to that one, feel free to contact me and I'll be glad to help you brainstorm topics!

Tomorrow night might work better for me. Just got home (I'm all the way in Marysville) and our pack will keep me busy for the next couple hours - but tomorrow is my night off :)

Bummer - I just saw this meetup and can't make it! Dropping in with a note to say that this is an excellent idea and hope you'll host another.

Sorry. I'm another last minute cancellation. Where are those elves who are meant to do my work for me? This to-do list isn't shrinking.

I know the feeling! I hope you can get those elves whipped into shape tonight, and we'll see you at another event soon.

Can't make tonight. If there's any way I can connect with someone later in the week, that would be great. I have an unexpected meeting.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
