Did you know June 15th is the peak of lavender growing season? Here's a unique event that will allow you pick your own lavender while also enjoying a late afternoon wine tasting picnic with live music. We'll be visiting Seven Oaks Lavender Farm located just a few miles beyond Manassas near Rt. 28.
The fee for this special event after normal visiting hours is $10. Lavender picking is 12 cents per stem. Full information about the farm and its products are below:

Pick-Your-Own Lavender & Picnic
Seven Oaks Lavender farm is a small, family-run, farm business. Mother and daughters, Edith, Deborah, and Dianne, co-own the farm and employ family members, interns, and neighbors to staff the business. The farm is set in bucolic Fauquier County, which has the advantage of being less than an hour west of Washington.
Seven Oaks Farm welcomes guests to share the beauty of its countryside setting and perfumed lavender field. This year the peak season is from June 1st through July 7th. In the "It Takes a Village" store, there are a variety of top quality lavender products, most of which are made by the owners at the farm.
For this event you're invited to bring your own picnic dinner, or you can order a boxed picnic ahead of time from Great Harvest Bakery in Warrenton. You can pick it up on your way out or have it delivered to the farm for an additional charge. See the Great Harvest Bakery website for details:
Wine from Cobbler Mountain Cellars

You may purchase a wine tasting or wine by the glass or bottle at the event. Cobbler Mountain Cellars wines have been selected by the U.S. Department of State to be served during State Dinners.

She later recorded with John Lennon's band, Elephant's Memory, and also as a singer with Kid Creole and the Coconuts.
While raising two kids in the early 1990's, Brooksie became an international children's performer, recording "Rainbow Family" and "Brooksie's Kid Songs." Returning to her singing and songwriting roots, she released "Call It A Day" in the late '90s to critical acclaim, and has now released "Been There," an album of all-original alt.country songs.

Seven Oaks Farm During the Civil War
Seven Oaks Farm is situated on a newly designated Civil War Battleground - Auburn I and II which occurred on October 13th and 14th 1863. Information about that history will be available during the event.

She was a friendly and outgoing guest who fit in well with our intrepid train travel group to see the Italian Market.
When we asked about her occupation, Deb told us she's a farmer who owns and operates a lavender farm in Fauquier County.
Fascinating! How often do you meet a lavender farmer?
One thing led to another, and now we are pleased to add a visit to Deb's farm and her special peak-season harvest event as an SHR meetup. This should be a lot of fun, as well as something different and interesting.
And you can come home smelling lovely with your fresh-from-the-farm lavender products...
