Drink Naked & Eat Lasagna

IMPORTANT UPDATE INFORMATION

Our group grew too large for the Naked Mountain Winery tasting room which has a maximum capacity of 40 people, so they have offered to give Second Half Rally members our own private room for this event. When you arrive, the staff will show you to the Barrel Barn behind the tasting room where we will receive the full wine tasting and lasagna dinner service while mingling and meeting fellow members. If the winery is not too crowded later on, you can drift out individually to enjoy the view from the tasting room and purchase wine.

I'm sorry the original plan became unworkable, but I believe this new plan will be equally fun. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! Since we now will not overrun the winery, I'm re-opening the RSVP's to anyone who wants to come. Please adjust your RSVP if you will not be attending so we can plan accordingly.

What could be better than sitting around a fireplace at a comfy chateau on a winter afternoon drinking wine and admiring the Shenandoah scenery? Well, it does get better because you can also enjoy a tasty lasagna meal at the same time for just $15, including a glass of wine. All of this is offered to visitors at the Naked Mountain Winery in Markham, VA, which is an easy one-hour drive west on I-66 from Fairfax.

I've been enjoying this afternoon outing to Naked Mountain Winery for years because: (1) their wines are far better than most Virginia wines, (2) the tasting room and fireplace are very warm and relaxing with nice views, and (3) the setting of the vineyard and winery itself is lovely during all seasons. So it's a winning combination all around when the lasagna meal (meat or vegetable) is offered on weekends from January to April. And yes, there really is a Naked Mountain overlooking the winery which got its name during the Civil War when soldiers cut down the trees for better observation (the trees have now all grown back).

"Drink Naked" is the advertising slogan of the winery, so the title of this event is absolutely accurate. ;-) You can purchase hats, tee-shirts, etc. displaying this catchy logo in the tasting room.

Directions: Take I-66W to the Markham exit (exit 18) and turn right on Leeds Manor Rd. (Rt. 688) at the bottom of the ramp. Drive a mile or two and look for the Naked Mountain Winery sign on the right. The entrance drive is a steep downhill turn and winds around on a single lane to the winery, so be careful. Parking by the winery building is limited, but you can also park farther away by the picnic gazebo.
