Biking from Chestertown to Cliff City

This is another daily major event during Second Half Rally's weekend at the Chestertown Tea Party Festival which is fully explained in the original meetup notice below:

Anyone can attend, even if you just want to come for the day. We'll meet at the parking area by Wilmer Park near the town center (see map above). The biking to Cliff City is all on mostly flat country roads with little traffic because the route follows a peninsula along the Chester River that's a dead end. So there's no through traffic to crowd us off the roads. It's a very pretty trip with lots of shade from the woods, a little farmland, some beautiful homes, occasional views of the Chester River, and even a real historic red one-room schoolhouse.

This is a relaxed picnic ride, so we'll take our time to enjoy the beauty of the afternoon, take rest breaks along the way, and stop to enjoy our food and wine. Bring something tasty that you can carry on your bike. There is just one country store available for cold drinks and snacks at the midpoint of our route. Let's hope it's open on Memorial Day.

We'll ride at a 11-12 mph pace, which is about normal for most people. There's no rush to get there or get back. On Monday, most people will be killing themselves trying to cross the Bay Bridge. But we'll be having a nice stress-free ride in Kent County to soak up the beautiful countryside.

This bike ride is suitable for people who've been biking recently and are in good shape. It's approximately 30 miles and will last 4-5 hours. We don't kill ourselves, but you must be a decent biker to make it riding all afternoon. You can expect a sore butt and tired legs. But any discomfort is worth it to have a memorable ride in a lovely location that you won't find in the Washington area.

As this is an outdoor event, we'll need good biking weather to make it happen. Check here on Sunday morning for an update. I'll post a notice before 9 am if we need to change plans or cancel.
