Eastport Christmas Lights Boat Parade

This is yet another terrific outdoor event in Eastport.  Some of us went last year and really enjoyed sitting out on a dock in the cold and dark watching the brightly lighted boat parade.  Much creativity, a nice crowd, and very well done.  As our group knows, hanging out in Eastport by the water is always a good time...

Christmas Lights Boat Parade

The Christmas Lights Boat Parade is sponsored by the Eastport Yacht Club, which describes it as follows:

Spa Creek in Eastport
Annapolis, Maryland

Date:  Saturday, December 8, 2012
Time:  6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Every year on the second Saturday in December, magic happens on the water of the Annapolis Harbor...boats suddenly appear out of the cold winter night illuminated with thousands of colored lights and crewed by jolly revelers. Families and friends gather at their favorite viewing spots along the waterfront to see this yearly spectacle and to celebrate the holiday season together. The Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade is one of Annapolis' signature events, and we invite you to join us as a participant or a spectator cheering on all the decorated boats and their crews.

Full details and the parade viewing map are here:

Meetup Place and Overflow Option

The boat parade starts at 6:00 pm, so we'll first gather at 4:00 pm to share some Christmas cheer and refreshments at the Boatyard Bar & Grill.  It's a fun casual place that's conveniently located just two blocks away from our favorite viewing area on Spa Creek where the parade will happen.  Parking is available on neighborhood streets.

Full details, location, and reviews of the Boatyard Bar & Grill are available on Yelp:

Overflow Option

A lot of people have signed up for this event.  If you can't get into the bar at the Boatyard Bar & Grill, go two blocks up Severn Street to the Rockfish at the corner of 4th Street and Severn Street.  It's a very comfy bar/restaurant that's large and very similar to the Boatyard bar.

The Rockfish is positioned by the Spa Creek bridge where many people will be watching the Christmas boat lights parade, so you'll be right near the action.  And you'll also be near those of us at the Boatyard bar if you want to join us for viewing the boat parade.  Details below:

Viewing the Boat Parade

Around 5:30 pm, we'll head a couple of blocks over to the dock area by the Annapolis Canoe & Kayak store where our group went kayaking last June.  Follow Severn Ave. to 3rd Street at the ACK store and walk one block down to the Spa Creek docks. There are several long piers there where people gather to watch the parade.  If you miss us at the Boatyard Bar & Grill, look for us there.

We'll look for a good space with a nice view of Spa Creek and the passing boats.  Be sure to bring a folding chair, a flashlight, and an invigorating beverage to help you stay warm.  Rev. Jake may even bring some holiday music to enhance our experience...

Although we did not meetup with the group, we enjoyed Annapolis and the Naval Academy Tour earlier in the day. Hot dogs near the water for lunch, the boat parade from the bridge, and dinner afterward. THANKS.

Thank you Jake for putting this Meetup together... without you I would have never known about this special event. Although we were late arriving, we had a great time. It was a beautiful night to watch this amazing parade of festive holiday boats. Everyone around us was in the spirit. Next year, we'll be on time to also enjoy the pre-parade celebration with the rest of the group.

Those who attended were fun and we had a great time. Nice temperatures and weather, and good viewing on the piers near the Chart House. It was a great show on the water!

I'd be happy to ride with someone and share gas expense, or drive and share good company. I'm in Montgomery County. Happy to meet anywhere along the way.

Cynna, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it. I just changed my RSVP to no. I may change it back to Yes if I can make it, but right now it looks like no.

Is anyone interested in a carpool from Woodbridge? The Gordon Blvd & Old Bridge commuter lot? I am willing to drive or navigate.

Let me clarify that I attended the Eastport boat parade last year with the AWESOME Chesapeake Kayak Adventures group led by the EVEN MORE IMPRESSIVE CHUCK. Second Half Rally didn't get started until January. So in case anyone doubted it, I'm not afraid to steal good ideas that fit our group. After all, I'm a lawyer. People expect that...

Jake - I attended this last year too. It's pretty awesome! Hopefully the weather this year will be as mild as it was last. Thanks for organizing it.

Gotta plan ahead if you want anything to happen... Now, I don't need to worry about forgetting it. I posted Tugfest 6 months in advance too!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
