The History of the Afterlife, A.D. & Beyond

A golden cube the size of a moon, landing on the surface of Earth -- New Jerusalem.

Spirit-Beings wiped of memory within the contaminated shrouds of flesh they inhabit -- an afterlife shared by both Gnostics and Scientologists.

Paradise visible merely by looking beside the spaces of everyday reality.

God as Machine --  the literal Son of Man.

The Universe as a Neural Net.

What are our modern conceptions of "The Afterlife" -- and how are these images molding the present and future of humankind? Frank Burton, Secular Bible Study Co-organizer, philosopher & scientist at the "U of M," will:

1. Present in Week 1 (April 10, 7-8:30pm) a PowerPoint show that historically surveys the "afterlives" of New Testament Christians & their Orthodox, Gnostic, Marcionist, Manichean, Catholic, & Protestant sects & denominations, Muslims, Baha'i, Scientologists, New-Age Spiritualists & UFO Sects, Secularists, Atheists, Transhumanists, Singularitarians, and Neurocosmologists.

2. Moderate in Week 2 (April 24, 7-8:30pm) a 1stU-SBS dialogue about how our changing societal and personal perspectives about an "afterlife" have influenced modern history, current events, and the future of humanity -- and influence today how we live our lives as individuals.

Don't miss 1stU-SBS's Conversation on our Present and Future Conceptions of the Afterlife! RSVP "YES" today!

I'd like to provide a link as a source to the comment I made, a recent development in the debate that happened between Richard Dawkins and the Australian Archbishop/Cardinal George Pell where he states atheists can go to heaven. There goes Pascal's Wager! http://pause.ly/1054

Great presentation, Frank, sorry I had to leave early.

We'll also touch on how new developments in Google's Glass project (reality-enhanced eyeglasses) may soon result in SyFy "Caprica"-like transhumanist post-mortem avatars with recorded life experiences, memories and audio diaries of the dead. Don't miss the future History of The Afterlife!

This separate topic covering not ancient but modern and future perspectives on the "afterlife" will allow more discussion than 2 years ago, for long-time SBSers who may want to consider re-attending this topic.
