Hike the Sinton Trail

Hi Secular Hikers,

Weather permitting; there will be a hike on Sunday, April 20th. The hike will be the Sinton Trail. This trail starts from the Front Range Trail (between Garden of the Gods and Fillmore) and heads west towards 30th Street.  The total round trip distance is about 5 to 6 miles with very little elevation gain.  This is an extremely easy hike.  We will be stopping for a snack before we turn around, probably at a gas station where we can sit inside and have an opportunity to go to the restroom.

We will meet at the parking lot just south of an outhouse (closed in winter) located at 3650 Mark Dabling Blvd. (Yes the address is on the small building.) It is 0.7 miles north of Fillmore St. and 0.9 miles south of Garden of the Gods Rd. on the west side of the street. The hike will start on the Front Range Trail heading south. In a short distance, we will be heading west on the Sinton Trail. The hike will leave the parking lot at 9:00 AM.

Please let me know if you plan on attending the hike. If you change your mind, please let me know that also.

p.s.  If this is your first hike with the Secular Hikers or if you have already given more than $0.50 per person per hike you attended or $10.00 within the last year, please ignore this message.

It costs me $72 twice a year to be a meetup organizer.  Would you please consider helping by sharing this expense?  If I receive about $0.50 per person (including guests) per hike or (to avoid a bunch of quarters) $1.00 per person about every other hike you attend, I would come out roughly even.

We saw lots of birds on this hike, especially robins. And there was one non-Easter bunny, nestled up against the base of a tree near the end of the trail.

It was a cool day. Clouds thickened, and it did not rain or thunder. There was some wind along the portion of the trail which paralleled Garden of the Gods road.

Per my pedometer, we traversed 6.0 miles, and I burned 660 calories.

Pix are in the photos section.

Aiken Canyon should have lots of pasque flowers and other early species blooming. Fountain Creek Regional Park ought to have wild plums and currants opening, plus ducks and migrating birds; the herons may be back. And if there's more snow this weekend, both trails are fairly easy to deal with.
