See Spot Read is a loosely affiliated group of volunteers who create opportunities in Wake County for kids to read to dogs. We present a coordinated and consistent program that promotes the benefits of children reading to dogs to enhance literacy skills. We motivate and encourage reading as well as help build self-esteem and self-confidence in reading aloud.
All new members are strongly encouraged to attend an orientation session - held every six weeks and announced as an event on our meetup page. This is a requirement before volunteering at any Meetup Site. Therapy Team Certification with a Nationally Recognized Therapy Organization is also required. Proof of this current certification is to be carried at all times. Members are also encouraged to shadow a read session without their dog. Most Therapy Certification Organizations require a shadow event.
New members should look in the Files section of the MeetUp for some guidance on preparing for and conducting reading sessions. This is helpful in making sure this Program will be a good fit for you and your dog.
We are growing and looking forward to adding new dog teams. Please contact me for further information at firstname.lastname@example.org or 919 848-8776.
