Our group does research and development in ontology and semantic database management, including large RDF databases and large ontologies, both for the US Government and generally in the bio-informatics area.
My research is in mathematical and algorithmic methods for the analysis and interoperability of semantic databases, and especially semantic hierarchies. I routinely work with OWL, RDF, and SPARQL, and we are actively interested in SPARQL extensions.
It's critical for us to be at the forefront of current practice, and this organization within the Seattle community seems ideal. We are interesting in networking and communicating with all our local colleagues in the R+D community.
I'd like to get to know the organization more before committing, but in principle we can be active participants in all activities.
I'm the Chief Scientist for Knowledge Sciences at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). I'm in the Seattle office, while our headquarters is in Richland, Washington. I'm a mathematical systems theorist, computer scientist, and semiotician
