Welcome to the Meetup group for Seminole Audubon Society! If you are interested in furthering your knowledge of birds, meeting other birders, and helping to conserve habitat for birds and other wildlife – then you are in the right spot.
The 2026 - 2027 Season is September through March. Program Meetings will be held the 2nd Sunday of the month during the season except for October. In October, we will be participating in The Big Sit! in place of the meeting. Meetings will be held in the auditorium at UF / IFAS Extension Seminole County, 250 West County Home Road, Sanford. Each meeting will have a guest speaker. Monthly field trips to local birding hotspots will be held September through March.

The Florida Scrub-Jay is the symbol of the Seminole Audubon Society. It is the only bird species that lives exclusively in Florida. It can be found in low-growing oak scrub and scrubby flatwoods. The numbers of Florida Scrub-Jay are small due to development and habitat fragmentation; it is on the federal endangered species list.

Birding at D Ranch Preserve
D Ranch Preserve, 2655 Reed Ellis Rd, Osteen, FL, USSeptember 18, Friday - Fieldtrip to D Ranch Preserve in Osteen
Owned and managed by Conservation Florida, D Ranch Preserve is a beautiful 476-acre piece of wild Florida that is now protected forever. In addition to buffering public conservation lands, D Ranch further protects the Lake Monroe watershed. The preserve contains 149 acres of critical Florida scrub habitat and 60 acres of scrubby flatwoods. Many iconic Florida species require this habitat for their survival, including Florida Scrub-Jays, sand skinks, eastern indigo snakes, wood storks, burrowing owls, and gopher tortoises. This special property’s rare ecosystems provide habitat for Florida’s wildlife. It also builds upon current conservation areas and helps protect Florida’s freshwater.
There are two options on this fieldtrip – a two-hour tram tour or a walking tour. Both tours start at 9:00 am. Please arrive at 8:45 am. A porta-potty is available on the site. Please bring water, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellent, and your birding gear.Two-hour Tram Tour - Limited to 18 people and reservations are required with a $12.51 donation through eventbrite at this link. Phyllis Hall is the coordinator.
Walking tour with Connie Dolan to see birds, butterflies, bees and native plants up close. Moderate walking over uneven terrain. No reservations are needed for the walking tour.
