Heartland Habitat For Humanity is a wonderful nonprofit organization with a mission to provide safe, decent, affordable housing for low income families in Johnson, Leavenworth, and Wyandotte Counties in Kansas, and Clay and Platte Counties in Missouri.
BUILD Volunteers- Construction skills are not needed, but full day commitment is required starting at 8:00am-3:30pm. Volunteers need to arrive promptly to allow time to complete the waiver, receive job assignment, and attend the morning safety meeting.
AGE REQUIREMENTS- Volunteers must be at least 16 years old to work on the construction site. Under 18 must have a waiver and release form signed by a parent or guardian prior to volunteering.
***STRONG COMMITMENTS ONLY!***
The type of work volunteers help with includes preparing the lots, framing, tiling, siding, painting; just to name a few. On this particular build day, we will be helping with the final stages of the home.
WHAT TO BRING- Please bring a lunch and any snacks or drink you would like. Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves. Check the weather forecast and bring things appropriate for the day - extra layer of clothing, sunscreen, rain gear, etc.
WHAT TO WEAR- Volunteers must wear sturdy closed-toe shoe and should bring work gloves. Depending on the location of the build site, volunteers may be working outdoors. Dress appropriately for construction and wear clothing/shoes you don't mind getting dirty or paint on. Safety is key, therefore no open toed shoes of any kind will be permitted.
TOOLS- Heartland Habitat provides most tools, however, due to their limited supply of tools we encourage you to bring your own tools if possible. Mark your personal tools clearly so they don't get mistaken for others when cleaning up at the end of the day.
**Please be firm with your commitment when you RSVP. Heartland Habitat plans their workdays based upon the number of volunteers they expect. If your plans change we understand, we just ask that you change your RSVP so that someone else can volunteer. Thank you!!
