Afterwork Hike - May Valley Loop

Let's do a quick after work hike on Squak Mountain! The trail is called the May Valley Loop trail and it's about 3.5 miles with 500 feet of elevation gain. It should take us about 2 hours to complete. This hike is considered a level 2 out of 5 (moderate).

We will meet at the state park and then hike up from there.

Bring a backpack with water, snacks, dinner, 10 essentials and wear good hiking shoes. I'm not sure how muddy the trail will be, but wear stuff you don't mind if it gets dirty just in case. Poles would also be a good idea, if you have them. Also bring a headlamp and rain gear! Lots of layers would be good too.

The 10 essentials:

  1. Navigation (map and compass)
  2. Sun protection (sunglasses and sunscreen)
  3. Insulation (extra clothing)
  4. Illumination (headlamp/flashlight)
  5. First-aid supplies
  6. Fire (waterproof matches/lighter/candles)
  7. Repair kit and tools
  8. Nutrition (extra food)
  9. Hydration (extra water)
  10. Emergency shelter

Parking passes needed: Discovery Pass. I do believe there is a pay station at the trailhead and it's a $10 day pass.

*NEW* Please also bring a signed copy of the waiver I have posted in our group’s files under the “More” tab.

Hope to see you gals there!

Oh and feel free to bring friends, coworkers, family, boyfriends, husbands or dogs! :)

FYI: I just checked the Washington Trails Association website and it appears the parking day pass is $10.

Thanks, Amy! I didn't realize they upped the price.

Thanks Rachel. I'm interested in doing some in April, if anyone else is, let me know.
