NATURE WALK ON LITTLE TALBOT ISLAND

  • November 10, 2012 · 9:15 AM

Nov. 10, Saturday, 9:25 AM: NATURE WALK ON LITTLE TALBOT ISLAND: Sleep in a bit and then lets enjoy a very pleasant four mile nature hike experiencing a cross-section of ecosystems on Little Talbot Island State Park. This includes maritime hammock, beach dunes, depression marsh, and a stroll on the beautiful white sandy beaches of the island. It will be low tide during our beach walk portion which will be perfect for the walk and to look for shells, sharks teeth, and to view wildlife. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, appropriate clothing for the temperatures, and a very bright and friendly smile. Cost: Entry fee of approx. $4.00 per vehicle onto the island, plus lunch if you desire.

We will meet at Hardees on Merrill Rd. at 9:25 AM. Take the old 9A (295) North or Southside Blvd Connector North and exit at Merrill Rd. Proceed East and Hardees is immediately on your left. We will park our cars in the shopping center located behind Hardees and will car-pool and caravan approximately 20 miles to Little Talbot Island State Park off of Heckscher Blvd. If you live in north Jax or Ga. then suggest you meet us at the island at approx. 10:00AM.

For those interested, we may try to have lunch at the Sand Dollar Restaurant if they are successful in re-opening by that time. They have good food and a beautiful view of the water.  If they are still closed or if we have a very large turnout, then we can bring some snacks, munchies, etc. for others to share and have a relaxing time in a picnic setting sharing the food, getting to know each other, and viewing the beauty of the ocean and wildlife on Little Talbot. Please sign up on Meetup.com if you plan to attend or give me a phone call so I know to expect you. http://www.floridastateparks.org/littletalbotisland  Leader (Mr.) Kim L. [masked] (cell[masked])

This was my first activity with SideTrackers and it was fabulous! The people are super friendly, fun loving, adventurous and delightlyfully authentic. They made me feel like family. Kim, our group organizer, is the sweetest person you could ever meet and he took very good care of his peeps :-)

Kim led a very nice hike today at Little Talbot Island through the woods and down the beach for a total of about 4.5 miles. He could not have ordered better weather or mix of people. He had arranged with a ranger to give us a short talk regarding the animals, etc. of the Island. After the hike, at Vicki's suggestion, we went to Marche Burette at the Villiage of Amelia Island for lunch and a visit to the nature center which was a lagniappe for the day. Thank you Kim and Vicki.

Yes, the Sand Dollar will still be closed, so we will relax under a pavilion by the beach and eat our snacks untill all return. We can then decide who would like to go to lunch and either visit a local eatery near the Ferry or travel back to the Merrill Rd area and visit a restaurant.

There is a message saying the Sandollar will be reopening the week of November 12. I don't think they will be open this Saturday.

Sorry about my photo being upside down but I don't know how to fix it. I had a hard enough time just getting one posted. I'm just going to leave well enough alone. Looking forward to seeing you all!!!
