Sierra Club Day Hiking

Challenge Yourself!  We are the Day Hiking Section of the Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club.  We do strenuous, fast-paced day hikes in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.  Our hikes range from 15 to 25 miles with 3,000-5,000 ft. of elevation gain.  

Many Day Hikers have been hiking together in this section for more than 30 years.   You can find our earlier hikes posted on a site built and maintained through the generosity of David Hough.

We're about having fun outdoors year-round in the many nearby parks and open spaces that offer hundreds of miles of fantastic hiking trails. Come along, we'll show them to you!

To help you have the best experience when hiking with us, we wanted to provide additional information.

ABOUT OUR HIKES:  All our hikes are considered strenuous and require a certain level of endurance. If you are not an experienced hiker, we encourage you to look at some of the other hiking groups.  Our hikes range from 15 to 25+ miles with 3,000-5,000 feet of total elevation gain.  We hike as a group, waiting at all trail junctions and not leaving anyone behind.

Leaders may change the hike plan, or sometimes even cancel the hike.

RSVP IS REQUIRED: Due to requirements at parks we hike in, we are limiting the size of the group and require that you RSVP so we can plan our hikes better.  Please be considerate and RSVP if you are planning to attend the hike.  If your plans change, please cancel your RSVP as soon as possible so that others may attend this hike.  

► We request that hikers do not "show up" on hikes unless authorized through the RSVP process.

► If you miss filling out the RSVP questions, your name will be changed to a "Not Going”.

► Please only attend if you are on the "Going" list shown on the right side of this page. If you are shown on the waitlist you are not on the "Going" list.

► Waitlist Priority is given to Day Hiker leaders/co-leaders and paid up Sierra Club members.  We encourage our members to contribute $15/year and support the Sierra Club. 

► No-shows and last-minute cancellations take a space someone else could have used.  If your plans change, please cancel your RSVP as soon as possible so that others may attend this hike. 

LEADER DISCRETION:  The hike leader has the sole discretion in accepting or rejecting participants for any reason.

PRIVACY:  To ensure the privacy of our group, if you take photos on the trail and upload them online later, we request that you do not “tag” people in your photos or provide any personal identifying information with your photos without prior consent.

NO HOST CARPOOL: We often provide a car pool location for the hike and sometimes it will be referred to as a “no host carpool’.  That means that Leaders will not be there but other people may be. 

PETS:  Dogs are not allowed on our hikes.
