Vijay Satoskar, PhD, PG, will give a presentation on Our Vanishing (potable) Waters. He worked for the City of Jacksonville as a Professional Geologist for the Groundwater Section. Presently, he teaches classes in the Earth Sciences at FSCJ.

Northeast Florida is almost totally dependent on the Floridian Aquifer System (FAS) for its drinking water supplies but a long-term sustainability of this precious groundwater resource is not assured. Degradation of the Floridian Aquifer (and its surface water equivalents such as the springs and the St. Johns River) is occurring at a rapid rate. Studies show how adverse human impacts at the surface can lead to almost irreversible damage to this valuable natural resource at a depth.

We will have to consider some bold corrective actions in order to assure the availability of this relatively inexpensive and safe drinking water supply for the future generations.

Everyone is welcome (including children)! Snacks will be provided, but bring your own drink. For further information, contact Larry Lickenbrock at (904) 537-6047.
