Easy-beginner hike! Come learn the fascinating history and ecological info for this great area. See the "Oak of the Golden Dream" and learn about the gold that was found in this area. We will be taking the "Canyon" trail, where we will follow Placerita Creek upstream to Walker Ranch and back. Walker Ranch was named for the area’s first homesteader, Frank Evans Walker. The Walker family (12 kids!) lived there until about 1930. There is one cabin they lived in left on the property where many Westerns were filmed in and around during the 1930s-1950s,

Mostly shaded, rugged in places and at several spots traverses creek bed. 2 miles each way, 300’ total elevation, 2 to 2.5 hours. Bring lugsoles or good tennis shoes, hiking poles, water, hat, sunscreen, $ for optional lunch after. Leashed dogs okay.

Meet 9:30am front steps at Placerita Canyon Nature Center, 19152 Placerita Canyon Rd, Newhall 91321. From I-5, take 14 fwy north for 1.5 miles, exit Placerita Canyon, go right for 1.5 miles, turn into nature center parking lot on right. Ample free parking lot.
