Privacy and the Car of the Future: Considerations for the Connected Vehicle

Speaker: Christie Dudley, Santa Clara University Law School

To date, remote vehicle communications have provided little in the way of privacy. Much information and misinformation has been spread on what the system is and can do, especially within the information security community. The recent field trial in the US of a connected vehicle infrastructure raises the level of concern amongst all who are aware of existing privacy issues.

Light refreshments *for pre-registrants only* starting at about 6:30 PM, with the presentation beginning at about 7 PM. Anyone is free to attend the presentation whether they register or not.

I heard this was great, sorry I missed out due to being double-booked, but my colleague Serge attended and reported an excellent presentation.

I am glad to see that this presentation generated debate. If you are curious about what's going on in Europe regarding security&privacy of V2X communications you can go on and follow it! I will present this project and the current status of research at PARC this Thursday for their "privacy lunch" (RSVP required). I am also involved in the harmonization EU/US, so feel free to drop me an email if you need more information. Thank you for organising this event!

Excellent presentation by Christie Dudley. Key topics including Radio Protocol, Basic Safety Message, Parameters for Effectiveness, Validity, Privacy, Certificate Delivery, and Worrisome Noise provided a great summary of remote vehicle communication, current privacy issues. Alison did her usual superb job organizing tasks providing a great venue with plentiful, healthy snacks.

Privacy topic gave a nice change of scope from the more usual (but still very interesting ;-) ) technical software-type talks.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
