Self-Driving Carsharing and Smart Mobility

Project Manager Tiago Forte of the innovation firm faberNovel Inc. will be presenting his company's work on self-driving, shared vehicles in partnership with the Earth Institute's Program on Sustainable Mobility (a consortium of Columbia University and several automakers and telecom companies). He will be discussing the details of their effort to create the first-ever fleet of autonomous vehicles operating in a real-world community as a proof of concept for wider deployment, including the insights they gained and the challenges they encountered in designing and funding such a system.

Drawing on the company's extensive work in Smart Mobility, including car-sharing, bike-sharing, interactive dashboards and interface design for transportation, Open Data platforms, and mapping services, Mr. Forte will also touch upon what he believes are the missing elements to turn such ambitious visions of transportation into reality.

NOTE: The Toyota Innovation Hub and Institute for Creative Integration, our facility host,  have generously offered to underwrite light snacks from Trader Joes for the event.    Attendees may want to form dinner groups and go out in North Beach afterwards.

Speaking of transportation, let's carpool!

Please note that there are only 30 chairs at the venue. If there are more than 30 attendees, some will have to stand.

I'm willing to take 3 passengers from Mountain View in my car. I would like to go eat out in the neighborhood after the event. Last visit to Toyota Innovation Hub, several of us went out afterward to Miyabi Sushi:

    which I recommend.

Hi I like to join the carpool to SF meeting. Thx.

Looks like there are more people wanting to car pool than seats available, thus I'll withdraw and just drive up with my friend instead. (Plus we may stay up late in SF afterwards)

Thanks Allison & Christie for making the offer!

Upshift is doing a manual delivery service of cars until we have cars that can drive themselves. Check out

I noticed the RSVP is closed. Wondering if I could bring a +1 guest, as I have a visiting out-of-town friend (also an engineer) who's interested in it also.

Dean, assuming that Eunice and Bob still want to carpool, 5 people would have to be small or uncomfortable in the backseat. My car is a Mazda 3.

Right. thus my "maybe" regarding joining your car-pool: If I could +1 my friend to the event, then we'll drive separately. But if I'm coming solo, then I'll join your car pool.
