Self-Driving Carsharing and Smart Mobility

Details

Project Manager Tiago Forte of the innovation firm faberNovel Inc. (http://www.fabernovel.com/) will be presenting his company's work on self-driving, shared vehicles in partnership with the Earth Institute's Program on Sustainable Mobility (a consortium of Columbia University and several automakers and telecom companies). He will be discussing the details of their effort (http://sustainablemobility.ei.columbia.edu/projects/functional-specifications-for-rapid-prototype/) to create the first-ever fleet of autonomous vehicles operating in a real-world community as a proof of concept for wider deployment, including the insights they gained and the challenges they encountered in designing and funding such a system.

Drawing on the company's extensive work in Smart Mobility, including car-sharing, bike-sharing, interactive dashboards and interface design for transportation, Open Data platforms, and mapping services, Mr. Forte will also touch upon what he believes are the missing elements to turn such ambitious visions of transportation into reality.https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/images/cleardot.gif

NOTE: The Toyota Innovation Hub and Institute for Creative Integration, our facility host, have generously offered to underwrite light snacks from Trader Joes for the event. Attendees may want to form dinner groups and go out in North Beach afterwards.

Speaking of transportation, let's carpool (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtImd-nDXk2tdE9JVEVzSG5EWGZ5S1I4YmJJTUNRR3c&usp=sharing)!
