Intro To Linux Kernel Debugging

This session will provide an overview of approaches to Linux kernel debugging as well as look in depth at a couple selected approaches.

This session will include:
1. Overview: printk, configuring kernel, kdump/crash, GDB with /proc/kcore, KGDB, debugfs, procfs, sysfs
2. Usage and examples of printk(), log levels

This was a good presentation about tools for debugging the Linux Kernel. Although the talk was aimed at kernel and/or device driver developers, experience with gdb would allow one to follow almost all of the talk.
  • Bruce Greenblatt
Lots of interesting and useful information about printk, proc, etc.
  • Alison Chaiken
The pace was just right for me: I followed along without confusion but learned several new tricks. The length of the meeting was just about right.
  • Akkana Peck
A good practical introduction to kernel debugging, complete with demos, code samples and advice.
