We are happy to present out next OpenStack Ops meeting on Sept 21st at 6 PM!

We will follow our same format with the doors opening at 6 PM with a short reception with food. Our talks will be starting around 6:30 and will go till about 8 PM at which time we will break out in to smaller groups to meet other members and dive in to the discussions.

One of the most important tasks that a cloud operator needs to focus on, after deployment, is effective monitoring. But what are the best tools to use and what metrics should be tracked to ensure a healthy OpenStack cloud?

In this talk, Harrison Page, from Platform9's engineering team talks about how Platform9 monitors its customers’ clouds and the lessons learned from being in the trenches of deploying OpenStack in production. Focus areas covered during this talk:

• State of the union on OpenStack monitoring

• Tools we use for monitoring: Server Density, Slack, VictorOps, SignalFx and PaperTrail

• Lessons learned on how and what to monitor

Madhura Maskasky, Co-Founder and VP of Product, Platform9

Madhura leads Product Management at Platform9. Before co-founding Platform9, Madhura spent 7 years at VMware Engineering, where she grew to be technical lead for several key products including vCloud Director, Update Manager and ConfigControl.
Madhura helped spearhead vSphere's transformation into a policy driven product suite, working broadly across groups to pull together the vision. Madhura holds a M.S. in Computer Science from Stanford University, specializing in databases and distributed systems.
When she isn't sweating the details on product, Madhura can be found rock-climbing, swing dancing and exploring San Francisco.

Harrison Page, Software Engineer, Platform9:

Harrison Page is a software engineer at Platform9. He is a San Francisco native who grew up on the Atari 2600 and Apple. He has worked on server-side development for Netscape, Walt Disney Internet Group, Soylent Communications and Gazillion Entertainment. A typical day for Harrison at Platform9 might include wrestling with production servers, debugging Python scripts, automating deployments and worrying about security. He lives in the Bay Area with two fat cats.
