"Weekend"
2011 British
Audience Award at SxSW & Jury Prize at Outfest 2011
This is a fascinating movie - not so much for its plot or its action or even it location (the industrial north of England). It's about how human beings, in this case gay men, emotionally connect and then discover that connection can mean different things to each of them.
The movie unfolds in "real time" (48 hours) as two young men meet in a gay bar in Nottingham, go home together and end up having a revealing conversation that continues as they interact with other people and activities over the next two days. "Weekend" is a moving and poignant look at how relationships develop, how people fall in love and what that does and doesn't do to their lives.
L.A. film critic Kenneth Turin says, "The exceptional performances by the film's two stars (Tom Cullen and Chris New) are nuanced, delicate and deeply felt from the first moment we see them to the last." He also points out the film's "unblinking sexual candor."
