Let's Make Pants

Time to move on to a more challenging project.

In this class you will have the choice of making pants, shorts or capris.

A pattern will be provided (Butterick 5044)

There will be a small selection of fabrics available for you to chose from however you should bring your own fabric (2-3yards) and matching thread. Please make sure your machines are in good working condition and please bring extra sewing needles and thread.

In this class you will learn how to construct a simple pair of pants, capris or shorts with an elastic waist band. You will learn how to cut the pattern out, lay it on the fabric, cut out the fabric and sew all seams together. You will learn pressing techniques, how to insert elastic and hand sew your hem. In this class you will learn a lot in a short period of time. Therefore it is important that you arrive early and continue to practice sewing when you go home.

A working sewing machine - If you have not used your sewing machines in over a year please have your machines serviced before bringing them to class.

(be sure to bring your foot petal and manual if you have it handy)

At least 3 yards of fabric (cotton, poly poplin, lightweight denim, lightweight linen, broadcloth) if you are unsure please feel free to email me

Presser feet

Extra sewing needles

Sewing shears and scissors for cutting paper

Seam ripper (this will be your best friend :-)

Tracing wheel/tracing paper or chalk (whichever you prefer)

Thread (various colors)

Ruler

Tape Measure

Pin cushion

Straight pins with the ball on top (these are easier to sew with)

Bobbins (make sure they fit your machine)

A sewing box or carrying case to keep all your supplies

Patience and a sense of humor :-)
