Who is a Single Mother by Choice?

• A single woman who makes the deliberate choice to start a family in which she will be her child’s (or children's) sole parent.
• Typically a career woman in her 30’s or 40’s who wants to have a child before it’s too late.
• Some of us use a doctor to undergo donor insemination (ICI/IUI/IVF), adopt in the US or abroad, or chooses a known donor using the "old fashioned way" or ICI at home.
• Single motherhood is ideally for the woman who feels she has much to give a child and who has the emotional and financial resources to support herself and her child.

This group is for single women in the VA, MD and DC metro area who have decided or are in the process of deciding to become mothers by choice. This group is open to serious thinkers, triers and successful Single Mothers by Choice (SMCs). It is my hope that we can come together and form a network of SMCs who can offer advice and support each other in our endeavors. While this group is geared specifically for single mothers who have made the choice to start a family without a partner or spouse, regardless of life/conception choices, anyone who feels they fit the definition of a single mother by choice is more than welcome to join the group.
