Hike to the Black Hole of Calcutta Falls in Auburn

Height: 40 ft.

Distance: 1.2 miles (RT)

Elevation: 1000 ft. (-350 ft.)
Difficulty: Easy

Lat/Long:[masked], [masked]

Directions: From I-80 at Auburn, take the Hwy 49 exit, and drive south on Hwy 49 for 2-3 miles to the where Hwy 49 forks. Turn right towards Cool. Cross over a bridge and Gate 150 is one your right hand side. Parking is limited on the side of the road. There is also parking located straight at the fork in Auburn Confluence in a paid parking are ($10 cash or check), but you will need to walk about 1/4 mile.

Hike: Lets try a short, pretty and easy one for our first time bringing the kiddos out with this group.  Since it just rained, the Calcutta Falls should have a full flow. It's a 2 mile flat scenic path along the Western States Trail from the Auburn Confluence. Start on the south side of the river, crossing over the historic No Hands Bridge, and continue on the north side up to the Black Hole of Calcutta Falls. Not stroller friendly. Dogs are welcomed on a leash.

After the hike you can enjoy your lunch by the beautiful American River or you can continue on another hike.

I was actually thinking about rescheduling for this weekend. Maybe Sunday? Would that be a good time for you?

That's ok. I've actually been watching the weather closely and it's saying its gong to rain. We may need to postpone.

Ida, I really wanted to come on the hike but I am sick. I'm really disappointed, we were looking forward to it. It looks beautiful there. We definitely will be on the next one.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
