Forest City Trail Work
Hosted by Single Track Action Riders
Details
Howdy Everyone,
I would like to put together a weekend of trail work, riding and other fun in Forest City. The dates I'm looking at are May 18th and 19th. It looks like the Prime Cut loop (Sandusky, Ridge Runner and High Grade) is in pretty good shape due to the hard work of many FTA volunteers. Moss Quaglia and I got all the trees out of the way on PVD and I got a good start to clearing the Truckee of trees but haven't had a chance to check the newest parts of the trail due to the logging operation going on. PVD and the section of Truckee between Henness Pass and Big Tree can definitely use some TLC. My idea is to do a half day of work on Saturday and Sunday followed by a ride, dinner and drinks.
Here's my plan for each day:
Saturday, May 18th
For PVD, we'll meet up at 8am in front of the Dance Hall to grab some breakfast, assemble bag lunches and then drop off a shuttle vehicle(s) on Oregon Creek Road. We'll drive back to town, get tooled up (rakes, pruners, hand saws, etc.) and hopefully start hiking the trail somewhere around 9am. If we have enough people attending (hopefully 5 or more), we'll be able to knock it out in around 5 hours. We'll drive back to town, saddle up and then ride the Prime Cut loop. After the ride, I'll host dinner and drinks at the Tin Cabin. If there's still enough light left, maybe we could drop into town for a game of horseshoes. Then, enjoy a bon fire and tasty beverages. If anyone is game, we could also throw in a night ride down the PVD with a shuttle return so it's all fun and no work.
Sunday, May 19th
For Truckee, we'll meet up at 8am in front of the Dance Hall to grab some breakfast, assemble bag lunches and then drop off a shuttle vehicle(s) on Henness Pass Road. We'll drive back to Big Tree to hike the trail with the same tool compliment we used on the PVD. Once we get back with the shuttle vehicle, we could access the Sandusky via the shortcut from the School House Road and ride up to the Big Tree staging area. We could do an out and back on the section of Truckee we just worked on provided there isn't any logging going on (Doubt it since it's a weekend) and then return via Ridge Runner and High Grade. Again, after the ride, I'll host dinner and drinks at the Tin Cabin. Since it's a work night, I imagine most will be cutting out to go home after dinner. But, for those that can hang out, we can do another bon fire and drinks.
Anyone who plans on staying Saturday night is welcome to stay at the Tin Cabin (there's lots of room). I'll be getting there Friday afternoon. Anyone also arriving on Friday is also welcome to stay at the cabin. Please let me know if you want to stay at the cabin either Friday or Saturday nights. There's also tons of space around the cabin to set up a tent if you'd like.
Remember, many hands make light work and we'll have a great time in the process.
