Tuscany Private Villa Rental

  • September 7, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Tuscany is one of Italy's best-loved regions. It combines a beautiful countryside reminiscent of the landscapes of Renaissance masterpieces, a rich artistic heritage including exquisite art and architecture, a glorious history, excellent wines and delicious food.

Set down between the blue-green Apenines and the turquoise Tyrrhenian Sea, Tuscany is the joyful heart and soul of the ancient Etruscan civilisation which lives on in every city, town, and village.

Join us on a week-long trip to this region as we tour Tuscany while staying in our own private villa. Our price is $2699 per person and everyone will have their own private room.

Please contact Paul Cathcart at [masked] or [masked] to arrange the $800 deposit.

- PRICE IS LAND ONLY. Our price is $2699 per person and everyone will have their own private room.
- Group host for the entire week.
- Tours and admissions for all attractions listed on the itinerary.
- 7 Nights Accommodations at a private villa in Tuscany. Due to the high amount of RSVP's on past trips with such a low amount of people actually going, we will not choose the villa until after we have received the initial deposit payments of $800 from at least 5 people. The final villa picked will be in the Tuscany region, sized for our group, and will be private to us. No other groups other than the homeowners will be there. It will either be one main villa or a property with smaller, converted buildings. Everyone will have their own room but everyone might not have a private bathroom. Rooms will be assigned on a first-come, first-deposited system. When we arrive at the villa, we will choose our rooms in the order of who deposited first.
- Welcome Get Together.
- Roundtrip transfers from Florence Airport to our group villa.
- All transportation listed.
- All admissions listed.
- All wine tastings listed (currently 5).
- All taxes, surcharges, and porterage charges.
- Tips for all tour guides and bus drivers.

* Meals will be on your own. I will be stocking the fridge with some food for breakfast and snacks as well as with wine, assorted meats, cheeses, breads, and fruits to bring with us during the day.

Here is our tentative itinerary. We will be filling it in more in the upcoming months.

09/07/13 (SAT) – Our private bus will pick up our group from the Florence airport at 2:30 PM.  From there, we'll be transferred to our private Tuscan villa.

09/08/13 (SUN) – This morning we'll take our bus to the city of Pisa, home of the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa. We'll climb to the top where we'll enjoy picturesque views of the city (please note we will have to go up in two groups 30 minutes apart due to space constraints). After visiting the nearby Cathedral, we'll head to Lucca for a guided tour of this ancient Etruscan city and Roman colony. Tour highlights will include the dazzling church of San Michele with its wedding-cake façade; the imposing Piazza Napoleone; Via Fillungo, the poshest shopping street in town flanked by stunning medieval buildings and towers, including the tree-topped Torre Guinigi; and the Piazza Anfiteatro, the miniature Coliseum converted centuries ago into a condominium, nowadays one the most picturesque squares in Tuscany. This will be a long day since it will be a 1 ½ – 2 hour drive each way from most villas we will be staying at.

09/09/13 (MON) – After a morning tasting at a winery, we will have a quick stop in Pienza, famed for its sublime sheeps-milk cheeses and its delightful Renaissance architecture. Then it's off to Montepulciano, a medieval town with rare beauty perched on a hilltop in the Orcia valley. We'll spend the afternoon walking in charming squares and hidden corners. On the way back to the villa, we will visit a vino nobile estate to taste the famous wine.

09/10/13 (TUE) – Today we'll explore the castles of Chianti and do some more wine tasting. We'll head to two castles in the area where we'll be able to taste some of the local wines.

09/11/13 (WED) – Free day to explore on your own.

09/12/13 (THU) – We'll take the train to Florence to explore for the day. We'll have tickets for the hop-on, hop-off bus to explore the city before taking the train back to our villa.

09/13/13 (FRI) - After a morning tasting at a winery, we will have a guided tour of Volterra before heading back to the villa.

09/14/13 (SAT) – Private bus transfer to the Florence airport at 9:00 AM.

*** Please note that the cities, activities, or their order may change to circumstances beyond our control. In the event this happens, we will try our best to make similar tours or changes. ***

If only I could afford a trip right now! I studied abroad there and loved it. Please plan another trip like this again... By then I may have saved up enough. And good luck not gaining weight.... You'll see what I mean when you gain several pounds despite walking up stairsand hills 10+ hours a day bc the food is soooo yummy.

I am new to the group, is this a yearly trip? I'd love to go this year but I've already planned a trip to Montreal this year. I'd like to plan on this one for next year. Thanks. :)

    May 21, 2013

    • Paul

No, every year we will go to a different area. Last year we did Napa. Haven't decided on where to take the group to next year.

Paul, Are there still spots left on the 9/9/ trip? If not, you mentioned adding a second week starting 9/14/?

    February 25, 2013

    • Paul

Yes, there are still spots left open for the first week. We've had a lot of interest so far but people have been very slow to actually put down deposits.

It looks like the price does not include airfare to Florence?

Can you provide an idea what it would cost for flights to and from Dulles, BWI, and/or Reagan?

      January 15, 2013

    • Paul

Right now the airfare is around $1100 - $1200 from all of the various airports. That is if you come in the day of the trip and leave the day the trip ends.

If you change your dates, the airfare may drop enough to cover your extra hotel days. Also, I will be waiting a couple of months to buy airfare because I'm sure it will drop in the future.

    January 4, 2013

I will be coming out with everything for this trip in a couple of weeks as I'm just finalizing everything. If you look at my initial comments below (at the bottom of the page), it goes over most of what will be covered.

So, this is the date of the actual trip? (Just want to make sure I understand the logisitics, etc.) Thanks~

    October 25, 2012

    • Paul

Yes, barring any unforeseen circumstances, this will be the date of the FIRST trip. Right now we're sold out (since we can only take 11 people on the trip) so chances are I will be adding another week leaving on 09/09/13.

      October 25, 2012

    • Paul

Sorry, I meant second week is 09/14/13.

We'll have more details at about 10 - 12 months out. I want to put trips on the calendar at around 14 - 18 months out so that people can plan for vacation time and money!

A trip to italy with friends. Fantastic!

    August 14, 2012

@Cindy - Yes, you can add a guest. Looks like between the groups that we have for this we might be going for a second week.

    July 28, 2012

  • joe

    Grazie, Paulo!

    July 27, 2012

  • Paul

If we get a large amount of interest (since this will be a very small group going), I will look at renting a villa for 2 weeks. I'm also considering have a pre- or post- trip in Rome if anyone is interested. It just all depends on scheduling since I'll be in Europe for 4 - 6 weeks visiting some other sites for future trips.

    July 27, 2012

  • Paul

@Joe - From the trips I've done in the past, the cost has covered everything but meals and airfare. For this trip, I'm looking at covering all our local transportation (bus rentals, trains if needed for local area sights, etc.), all our classes, winery visits, and tasting fees. I want it to be so that people don't have to come out of pocket too much. Since we're renting a villa this time, I'm sure I'll also have a very well-stocked fridge with food (and drinks!!!) for the group to partake in.

    July 27, 2012

  • Susanne

I will have to be a maybe at this moment but will reevaluate depending on cost/when..i am sure you have been but I stayed in a castle in tuscany and can offer suggestions on what towns to visit etc,

    July 27, 2012

  • joe

I should have added I know this is all just preliminary to gauge interest.

    July 27, 2012

  • joe

Work schedule for 2013 would probably keep me from these dates.

    July 27, 2012

  • joe

Curious as to what the $2499 (est) would be covering: meals, classes, local transpo, tours, etc.?

    July 27, 2012

  • Scotty

    Can't go

    July 27, 2012

  • bruce b.

    Sounds interesting.

    July 27, 2012

  • Scotty

I'm definitely interested, provided the price isn't too high!
