Hello intrepid sailors!   We are a motley crew of Salty Sea Dogs of all ages and walks of life.  Our core group members who sail out of Anna Maria Island (AMI) want to spend as much time as possible working on sailing skills, but not necessarily racing.  We love to be on the water, but don't have our own boats.  The majority of our sail events are organized through BIMINI BAY SAILING on AMI.  Proprietor Brian Dahms is one of our group sponsors and has a fleet of Sunfish, Windriders (17' trimarians), and several small monohulls.  Get ready for a trip back to "old Florida"!  There is no "office"...only sailing! We welcome sailing "newbies" to our group! If you have never sailed before, you might consider contacting Brian for a lesson - just to get a handle on the basics.  Also, go to Brian's homepage at: http://www.biminibaysailing.com/ for some educational links for the novice sailor.  You will get a rental discount if you mention you are a member of the Small Sailboat Sailing Meetup Group...great deal!!!

If you are competitive, then check out Nick's biweekly sailing racing events at Tampa Sailing Squadron (TSS) in Apollo Beach.  Getting involved in racing really helps one fine tune their sailing skills!  Nick always has some special events planned, including Regattas and sailing instruction!

If you have your own boat and wish to join us, you are more than welcome...the more, the merrier!!!  Bimini Bay is on private property, so there is no public boat ramp.  The best place to trailer and put in a small sailboat is Kingfish Ramp on SR 64 (aka Manatee Avenue).  Let us know you plan to meetup with us in the event comments, so we can keep in contact and make plans for a rendezvous location.

Brand new to sailing – no worries: Brian, and other experienced sailors will offer free instruction during part of the Meetups. Just bring a positive attitude, your sense of adventure and be in good enough physical shape to climb aboard and heave ho. The Bimini Bay fleet is moored at Capt. Jack's...so wear water shoes and be prepared to do some wading! Bimini Bay Sailing’s fleet includes a wonderful variety of sailboats for different sailing adventures: the classic 14 foot Sunfish, Laser, Precision 15, and Capri 16.5, and the exciting Windrider 17 Trimarans.

Finally, please note that this Meetup group is FREE to members! The cost associated with running a Meetup is paid by our sponsors; Bimini Bay Sailing and Mermaid Dreams Jewelry. Please take a minute of your time to view their web pages and group discounts. Of course, "chip in" donations are always graciously accepted!

If you have any questions, concerns, ideas for future Meetup events, please write to the organizer...
