Monday thru Friday, August 20 to 23, 2009

The inaugural JULIAN STARFEST at the Menghini
Winery in Julian, CA in 2008 was a complete success!?
Not only did we have good skies and naked eye
seeing down to 6th magnitude, but everyone,
participants and vendors alike, had a wonderful
time. Flushed with the feeling of success, the
Starfest Committee is going full-steam towards
this year's event, scheduled for the dark of moon
on the 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd of August, 2009.?
That's right, one extra night this year.? We've also
added on-line booking through PayPal, one extra
night of viewing, kid activities, plus much, much more.?
Please review our updated web page for all the facts
about this years event.

Free Public Star Party Saturday Night,!
Anyone can enjoy the Julian Starfest by participating
in the free public star party on Saturday, August 22,
2009. Arrive in Julian between 7pm and 9pm and you
can enter the Starfest grounds (1150 Julian Orchards
Dr., Julian, CA 92036) for free, and take a star tour of
the heavens using the many telescopes set up in the
viewing area. Experts will be on hand to answer
questions about what your looking at and about the
telescopes.? Parking is available nearby and we suggest
you bring a red light flashlight to guide yourself to the
observing area.? If you don't have a red light flashlight,
red film will be provided to cover a white light flashlight.
Please, no white lights in the observing area. ? If you
wish to take part in the raffle at 6:00 pm, then you must
arrive before 6:00 and pay regular admission prices.

TMS-SD will participate on Saturday in this event with
our interactive display and the San Diego Mars Rover
and Mars Sojourner Rover replicas.

The Mars Society-San Diego's Mars Movie Night will
be held at 8:00pm at the 2009 Julian Starfest
(http://www.julian...) at the Menghini Winery,
1150 Julian Orchards Dr., Julian, CA 92036. This will
be part of the Free Public Star Party activities Saturday
Night after 6:00pm.

MARS MOVIE NIGHT is hosted by The Mars Society-
San Diego and Gerry Williams, creator of the We'll be screening "Destination:
Mars!" (2002) by Richard and Tor Lowry,
"This ambitious production captures the essence of
1950's sci-fi classic films: it comes complete with
Martian Women, Flying Saucers, killer robots and a
50's typical Doomsday Weapon story line. It has the
look and feel of an actual 1950's movie, and is being
billed as a "lost-film" that has been recently recovered
and restored."

As usual, admission is FREE.

No TMS-SD participation is planned for this event.
