Introverts are not hermits. Introverts are not always shy. Introverts gain energy from time alone, and reflection. They need solitude on a regular basis, so that they can "recharge" and be ready to spend mental energy on social interactions. Interactions they may in fact enjoy, but can tire them faster than extroverts. (Who gain energy from socializing, and feel drained when they are alone for too long.)
Because introverts are often uncomfortable with the type of social situations that are prevalent in our very extroverted society, it can be more difficult for us to meet people, and find activities that suit our quieter temperament. Activities, settings and companions that allow us to think before we answer a question, and actually listen when we do.
That's what Social Introverts of Frederick County is all about-giving introverts who are looking for quieter, simpler and smaller gatherings a chance to meet other like minded people without feeling overwhelmed.
No clubs. No loud bars. No awkward small talk and pressure to sell ourselves and look everyone in the eye all the time, with a business card at the ready. When the group meets up, nobody has to compete with chaos in order to be heard.
Our "Conversation and Refreshment" get-togethers within Frederick County form the backbone of the group's activities, but we also branch out sometimes, and do more specific activities. Something is usually scheduled every two or three weeks.
Acceptance of all races, religious views, creeds and sexual orientations and gender indentifications is required to join us.
