I initially thought about organizing this Social Work Study group in order to prepare for the licensing master social work exam (LMSW). A few years back, I thought of starting a group to get people together to volunteer and spread awareness about social issues. If you enjoy learning, and teaching others, this is the group for you. We can provide workshops, demos, presentations and networking events. We will select topics that our members are interested in and that have a wide appeal. This group will definitely let you grow as a person.
I’m currently working as a clinical consultant with the New York City Children’s Services, Clinical Consultation Program (Child Center of NY). My job entails providing case consultation, office based training and assistance with referrals to community-based resources. I am also a member of the Queens Borough President, Helen Marshall: Task Force on Domestic Violence, Child Maltreatment and Elder Abuse. Some days I truly miss social work school because there is hardly any peer support at the work place. I’m hoping that this will be the ideal place to meet new social work friends.
We will hold regular monthly meetings and weekly study groups for the LMSW/LCSW exam. At the study groups we will share materials and practice exam questions together. The monthly meeting is open to everyone to share ideas. It could be a time to unwind with friends for brunch and share information with each other or a time to volunteer in the community. These events will take place in the community and sometimes at home.
This Meetup group is free but I have to require participants to pay $5.00 for each meetup in order to keep our subscription with Meetup monthly and to cover my photocopy expenses.
