Most of you who have attended a philosophy-focused meetup during the past two weeks know that we've been joined by some Dominican friars who are in town to give some talks on philosophical/theological topics. The good news is that these guys are very smart, very well-educated, and very engaging. The bad news is that the talks are being held on Monday evenings at the same time that Socrates Cafe is going on.
That said, attending the Brothers' talks is a passing opportunity that may well be worth your time, even at the expense of showing up to Socrates Cafe. There are only three talks left in this series; I urge you to consider taking advantage of this opportunity. The dates and topics of discussion are:
Mon. 7/2 (TONIGHT!) - After giving a Thomistic definition of conscience, and offering an Aristotelian understanding of how the state relates to a person's conscience, a comparison will be made to the recent Individual health care mandate being decided by the Supreme Court.
Mon. 7/16 - An analysis of God, goodness, and freedom as it is found in 21st Century American Society.
Mon 7/23 - A talk on the distinction between freedom of worship and freedom of exercise of religion as it is found in the Bill of Rights, and its application to American society today.
They will take place at 7:00pm in the parish center at St. Louis Bertrand Church, 1104 South 6th Street, Louisville, KY 40203. All are welcome.
